Workshops for the blind and visually impaired
As part of the project, we conducted 12 creative workshops for blind and visually impaired participants – four two-day workshops in Slovenia, four two-day workshops in Serbia, and four one-day workshops in Croatia.
Participants, under the mentorship of artists, created multisensory artworks, exploring various ways of expressing and perceiving art. They used natural and other tactile materials, sound, smell, and innovative artistic techniques in their creations. The starting point of the creative process was cultural heritage and sustainable use of materials, with special attention given to reuse and recycling. We previously collected waste and recycled materials for the workshops at all three faculties involved in the project.
The workshops were not only aimed at creation but also at socializing, connecting, and exchanging experiences among blind and visually impaired participants. They were designed to provide a pleasant, relaxed, and encouraging working atmosphere, where participants could feel accepted, safe, and included.
An important part of the workshops was also intergenerational and inter-institutional networking. Students participated in the implementation, gaining valuable practical experience working with blind and visually impaired individuals and in designing and creating artworks tailored to their needs and ways of perception. Thus, the workshops represented a space for joint creation, socializing, knowledge and experience exchange, and connecting different perspectives on art and cultural accessibility.
As part of the project, we prepared five exhibitions, where we presented artworks created in the workshops for the blind and visually impaired to the wider public. Additionally, we organized a sales exhibition of products created during the workshops at the Miran Jarac Library.
Selected wooden products were also presented at the national traveling exhibition Magic of Wood, which toured eight locations across Slovenia in 2025. Among them was Ljubljana, where the grand opening took place at Cankarjev dom.
