The Faculty of Design is the lead partner of the European project in the Creative Europe program, MultisensoryArt, which runs from October 2024 to December 2026. The project is primarily aimed at members of marginalized groups, especially the blind and visually impaired, but is also content-wise and experientially interesting for the wider public. Its fundamental goal is joint creation and production of innovative multisensory artworks. We have tested and expanded new artistic and design practices through gallery presentations, exhibitions, and workshops.
The project involves artists and designers from three countries – Slovenia, Croatia, and Serbia. We have established transnational cooperation based on mutual learning, experience exchange, and circulation and presentation of artworks. We conducted 12 workshops for the blind and visually impaired and prepared 5 exhibitions of products created in the workshops. We also participated in several exhibitions across Slovenia as part of the traveling exhibition The Magic of Wood and organized a sales exhibition of products by blind and visually impaired artists.
In Slovenia, Croatia, and Serbia, we have held 8 exhibitions of multisensory artworks tailored to the needs and perception methods of blind and visually impaired visitors. The common thread of all activities was connecting cultural heritage with a sustainable approach. In our creation, we experimented with various multisensory approaches, where the artworks included a combination of sound, smell, and tactile perceptions. With the project, we aim to provide the blind and visually impaired access to visual culture in new, innovative, and adapted ways, while also encouraging their active involvement in cultural creation.
The concluding event of the project was the realization of an outdoor gallery in the Arboretum Volčji Potok. As a lasting record of the activities carried out and the content created, we also prepared two multimedia interactive books and a video that comprehensively presents the key activities, collaborations, and achievements of the project.
